The South Australia city of Murray Bridge is located about 47 miles south-east of Adelaide and boasts a population of just under 18,000. The city lies in a prominent position on the Princes Highway linking Adelaide and Melbourne, and was renamed Murray Bridge in 1924 having previously been known initially as Mobilong, and then later as Edward’s Crossing. The city has a successful racecourse which is administered by the Murray Bridge Racing Club, established in 1899. The racecourse is now situated on Maurice Road, holding its inaugural meeting at this venue on 25th July 1914. The principal race is the $100,000 Murray Bridge Gold Cup which was held on 20th October 2017 when Excites Zelady completed an unprecedented treble for trainer Chris Bieg.
